What is the Summer Programme?
The Summer Programme was piloted last summer. It was so successful, we’re running it again this year.
The programme consists of a series of online creative writing workshops that run between July and August. Topics are chosen based on what our members need help with, such as editing skills, formatting, creating characters etc.
One of the perks of membership is that both Full and Online members get to attend these workshops for free.
Guests are more than welcome to attend any workshop they like for a fee of £5 per workshop. The workshops are held via Zoom. If you are interested in attending any of the workshops, please email us:
We’re delighted to confirm the Summer Programme for 2022:
Saturday 2nd July – Character Master Class
During this session, we’ll go through a variety of exercises designed to help you get to know your characters, as well as how to show what you learn on the page.
Not only that, but we’ll go through the exercises with your protagonist(s) and the antagonist/villain side by side, to help you understand the role both play in the plot.
Saturday 16th July – Screen Writing for Beginners
Have you ever wanted to write a film, short film, or TV series but don’t know where to start? Join us for this workshop where we show you how to write your own screenplay. We’ll go through the basics such as formatting, as well as what makes an effective, engaging screen play.
Please note that this workshop is geared towards screenplays rather than stage plays.
Saturday 30th July – Formatting Fiction
Are you new to writing and have no idea where to start when it comes to formatting dialogue, scenes, flashbacks etc? Or are you an experienced writer but find yourself questioning whether your dialogue is formatted correctly, whether you should start a new paragraph, or if you should use an en-dash or an em-dash? If so, this workshop is for you.
We’ll go through various formatting conventions and rules in fiction to help you understand how to format the story you are writing. This workshop is suitable for all levels, so whether you’re just starting out, or brushing up your skills, join us and learn how to format your WiP.
We will cover things like:
- Dialogue (including dialogue tags)
- When to use italics
- …and much, much more.
Saturday 13th August – Mastering the Middle
Is your story suffering from sagging middle syndrome? Or do you have the opening and ending sorted but have little to no idea what happens in-between? Or are you just looking to make sure your story middle is exciting and engaging enough that your readers don’t want to put your book down? If any of these apply, this workshop is for you!
Through a series of exercises and prompts, this workshop aims to guide you through building the events of the middle or tightening up your sagging middle.
This course is suitable for all genres, and all skill levels. Also, it is suitable for novels, novellas, short stories, screen plays, and stage plays. So whatever genre you work in and what format, joins us to bring out the best in the middle of your story.
