Prize Performances

6th April’s meeting was another enjoyable evening. Ejike Ndaji is sad he was unable to be there to convey his appraisals and announce the winners in person, but our Competition secretary, Ana Pope, did a sterling job in his stead.

This competition stands as one of the most popular of the current programme, receiving a large number of entries. Out of these came the following:  1st place, Phyllida Scrivens, Romance Versus Rugby; 2nd, Andrew Heron, Decline Of A Rock Star; and 3rd place, Elizabeth Taylor with Magdalen Street.

In addition to the well deserved kudos of coming top, Phyllida can also look forward to picking up the Colin Sutton Award for Humour at the AGM – a cup she gets to keep proud custody of until the next winner arises to claim it.

All three winners were happy to perform their pieces and there was time as well for other entrants to come to the front. Thanks to everyone brave enough to do so. You were a hoot. Mickie Dann! What can one say? Bingo wings and other things a-shaking. A hilarious show-stopper if ever there was one.

And so we look forward to the 19th when we will be launching this year’s eagerly awaited Olga Sinclair Open Short Story Competition. This promises to be quite a party with no less than two guest presentations and an expansion on what is expected of submissions by the adjudicator, Rachel Hore herself.

More details to follow shortly.
