Maggie Secker

On 4th June Norwich Writers’ Circle welcomed Maggie Secker.

The poet and former BBC Radio Norfolk host adjudicated our Humour Competition, which was launched by NWC Vice-Chairman Sean Hindle earlier in the year.

Maggie begun the evening by saying how privileged she was to be given the opportunity to read our work and offer her feedback on it. The former Sunday afternoon radio star also commented that she enjoyed reading our short stories, as many of them had an early hook which kept her interested, before a fun pay-off at the end.

The winners were then announced as:

1st – The Colin Sutton Cup For Humour – Pack It In – by Maureen Nisbet

2nd – Discretion Missing – by Anne Funnell

3rd – A Recipe For Smug – by Victoria Bartlett

We were then lucky enough to listen to all the competition entrants, which then led into a wider discussion of modern humour and the implications of political correctness today.

NWC next meets on 18th June when NWC member Neil Walker will be adjudicating our Journalism Competition.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
