Reading Like A Writer

On the 16th October, Norwich Writers’ Circle chairman Adrian Dearnley hosted a writing workshop and manucript evening.
Using an exercise from Francine Prose’s book Reading Like A Writer as a starting point, individually everyone had to choose 3 words in a row from a series of 7 lines. In a surprise twist, we were then asked to write something based on the line either above or below the one already chosen. After 15 minutes writing there was the opportunity to hear a selection of stories created by members.
The meeting closed with members reading manuscripts which they brought along that evening, which lead to a lively discusssion.
We next meet on the 6th November when we will be welcoming best-selling biographer Kathryn Hughes, who will be speaking about her work to date, including A Short Life & Long Times Of Mrs Beeton.
